Comparison of
this tank with the M3 (Diesel) Stuart II shows how the layout of air intake
hoses differs between the diesel and gasoline M3s. It is also
clear that the pistol ports have been raised significantly on the
M3A1 (and M3 Hybrids). This was due to the turret basket which
meant that the turrt crew were to seated in a higher position in
the turret than when standing in the earlier M3s. The
semicircular protrusions on the roof of turret are protective
guards for the gunner's perscopic sight, the commanders periscope
is not afforded any such protection.
